What a week for our Explorers! Our campus was full of energy with a busy lineup of back-to-school events:

🏫 Open House: Thank you to our families for rolling with the unexpected reschedule and helping fill our campus with Explorer spirit. 💜

🐾 Watch D.O.G.S. Kickoff: Pizza, dads, and plenty of sign-ups! We’re excited to have so many dads joining our volunteer crew this year.

🍟 McDonald’s Spirit Night: A huge turnout made for a fun and successful night! Thanks to everyone who came out, supported PSE, and kept the drive-thru energy going.

🙌 Volunteer Shoutout: Thank you to everyone who gave their time this week to help make these events happen. We appreciate you!

💜 PTA General Meeting: We held our first general meeting of the year. If you missed it, meeting slides are now available on our website. Our next general meeting is October 8th.

¡Qué semana para nuestros Exploradores! Nuestro campus estuvo lleno de energía con una gran variedad de eventos para comenzar el año escolar.

🏫 Casa Abierta: Gracias a nuestras familias por adaptarse al cambio inesperado de fecha y por llenar el campus con el orgullo Explorador. 💜

🐾 Inicio de Watch D.O.G.S.: ¡Pizza, papás y muchas inscripciones! Nos emociona contar con tantos papás que se han unido a nuestro equipo de voluntarios este año.

🍟 Noche de Spirit en McDonald’s: ¡Tuvimos una gran participación y una noche muy exitosa! Gracias a todos los que nos acompañaron, apoyaron a PSE y llenaron la fila del autoservicio de energía.

🙌 Reconocimiento a nuestros voluntarios: Gracias a todos los que dedicaron su tiempo esta semana para ayudar a que estos eventos fueran posibles. ¡Los apreciamos muchísimo!

💜 Primera Reunión General de la PTA: Tuvimos nuestra primera reunión general del año. Si no pudo asistir, las notas de la reunión están disponibles en el enlace. Nuestra próxima reunión general será el 8 de octubre.

As our PTA continues to grow and become more active, we’re proposing updates to our Bylaws and introducing Standing Rules and Committee Descriptions, to be effective for the 2026-2027 school year.  Please review the proposed documents on the PTA Governance page (must be logged in as a member to view), before our October 8 membership meeting at 7:30am, when the updates will be discussed and voted on by the membership 

Active PTA members are invited to attend the next Executive Board Meeting on September 21 at 4:30PM to discuss the proposed documents. Please RSVP to attend or submit questions to pineshadowspta@gmail.com.

A medida que nuestra PTA continúa creciendo y participando más activamente, proponemos actualizar nuestros Estatutos e introducir Reglas Permanentes y Descripciones de Comités, que entrarían en accion para el año escolar 2026-2027. Revise los documentos propuestos en la página de Gobernanza de la PTA (debe haber iniciado sesión como miembro para verlos) antes de nuestra reunión de membresía del 8 de octubre a las 7:30 a. m., cuando los cambios serán discutidos y sometidos a votación por los miembros.

SBISD Board Meeting Highlights 9/14/26

• Discussed unfunded and underfunded mandates from the State that impacts why we have a projected deficit of $25-30M budget deficit. 

  • Examples: safety and security requirements, special education services, compliance and tracking. See the presentation here. 

• Discussed technology use in classrooms and instruction and how it is used in state-mandated testing along with cybersecurity and efforts to ensure content is appropriate for students.

  • There was one public comment about this area and concern about Chromebooks being a distraction more than a help with learning.

• Board members discussed potential legislative issues. Last session the advocacy to raise the basic allotment per student did not result in a large increase from the legislature. The board discussed if they should consider requesting funding for specific “buckets” versus the basic allotment. 

• Approved the certificate of compliance with Senate Bill 12 (passed during the last legislative session), which prohibits employees from “assigning or engaging in DEI duties,” restricts employees from supporting students who are socially transitioning, restricts “gender fluidity” from instructional materials, requires parental consent for mental health services, among other requirements. Read more here.

Temas de la última reunión del Comité de SBISD (14/9/26)

• Discutieron mandatos estatales de los cuales el Estado no provee fondos o no proveen fondos suficientes para cubrir los gastos y cómo esto afecta a nuestro presupuesto y el efecto que tiene en el déficit de nuestro presupuesto que es alrededor de $25-30M. 

  • Ejemplos de áreas mandados pero sin suficiente fondos: seguridad y requisitos de policía mandado por el Estado, servicios de educación especial, cumplimento y seguimiento. Puede revisar la presentación aquí. 

• Hablaron del uso de tecnología en las aulas, como está usado en exámenes del estado, también de ciberseguridad y el esfuerzo para asegurarse que el contenido que estudiantes pueden acceder es apropiado. 

  • Había un comentario público sobre esta área y preocupación sobre el uso de Chromebooks y si es una distracción más que una ayuda con aprendizaje.

• Los miembros del Comité hablaron de posibles asuntos legislativos. En la sesión pasada de 2025 se enfocaron en pedir que dedicar más fondos a cada estudiante. No fue exitoso pues están considerando si sería mejor definir ciertas áreas donde pedir más fondos. 

• Aprobaron el certificado de cumplimoento con el proyecto del ley del Senado 12 (fue aprobado en la sesión estatal anterior) que prohíbe empleados “asignar o hacer hechos DEI,” restrinja el término y contenido de fluidez de género en instrucción, requiere permiso de padres para servicios de salud mental y otros requisitos. SBISD Budget Advisory Committee Highlights 9/17/26

• Introduced the committee members. 

• Gave an overview on Texas public school finance. See the presentation here. Begin listening at Minute 26 if you want to hear the presentation on school finance. 

  • An Austin legislator made a 10 minute video primer and history on school finance here that is a good introduction. 

• The October Budget Advisory Meeting meeting will present the budget and financial position for SBISD.

Temas de la Reunión del Comité Asesor del Presupuesto 17/9/26

• Presentaron a los miembros del comité.

• Dieron una revista de finanzas de escuelas públicas en Texas. La presentación está aquí. Inicia escuchando el minuto 26 para escuchar la presentación de finanzas de escuelas.

  • Una legisladora de Austin hizo un video de 10 minutos sobre información básica y un historial de finanzas de escuelas que es una buena introducción.

• La reunión de Octubre del comité presenta la situación de presupuesto y posición financiera del distrito de SBISD.

Many PSE families live nearby the Spring Branch trail. There is a meeting this Tuesday at 5pm-7pm to discuss the plans to extend the trail from Wirt east to the White Oak Bayou. Attend to show your support of the extension and to give feedback to organizers. 

Muchas familias de PSE viven cerca al sendero de Spring Branch. Este Martes tendrán una reunión de 5pm a 7pm para hablar de los planes de extenderlo desde Wirt al White Oak Bayou. Asista para mostrar su apoyo a la extensión y para compartir sus opiniones con los organizadores.

Some PSE families may live near Awty Elementary where there is a concrete batch plant that many surrounding community members are not happy about. Senator Cook and Commissioner Briones are having a learning session to learn more about these types of plants and how to advocate at the State legislature on Saturday, September 26th at Freed Park from 2 to 4pm. What they will cover is good information that can be applied to other issues at the State legislature, so it’s a good nearby opportunity for our community. Register for the workshop here.

Algunas familias de PSE posiblemente viven cerca a la escuela Awty donde hay una planta de concreto y muchas personas alrededor no están felices de estar allá. La Senadora Cook y Comisionada Briones tendrán una sesión de aprendizaje sobre estos tipos de plantas y como abogar al nivel estatal. Es el Sábado 26 de Septiembre en el Parque Freed de 2 a 4pm. La información que van a cubrir se podra aplicar a otros asuntos legislatales, entonces es una buena oportunidad para atender. Inscríbase para el taller aquí.

In order to volunteer on an SBISD campus, you must be registered with SBISD and pass a background check. Registrations are now open for the 2026-2027 school year and take up to two weeks to approve. 

Para ser voluntario en un campus del distrito Spring Branch, debe estar registrado con el distrito y ser aprobado/verificado. Las inscripciones para el año escolar 2026-2027 ya están abiertas y toman hasta dos semanas para ser aprobadas.
