As our PTA continues to grow and become more active, we’re proposing updates to our Bylaws and introducing Standing Rules and Committee Descriptions, to be effective for the 2026-2027 school year.  Please review the proposed documents on the PTA Governance page (must be logged in as a member to view), before our October 8 membership meeting at 7:30am, when the updates will be discussed and voted on by the membership

SBISD BOARD UPDATES

• The Board of Trustees approved the new tax rate at $ $1.05630. There is a 3.32-cent increase due to the adoption of the 2025 Bond (athletic facilities). 

• Highlights from the last board meeting on 9/21/26.

  • The Board recognized Spring Branch Education Foundation for giving a record $3.68M in 2025-26 to benefit SBISD programs, staff and students.

  • Public comment addressed concerns about the City of Houston proposal to put an underground water detention on Memorial Middle School property and how that may or may not impact a future school rebuild. Several speakers addressed concerns about appropriate access and monitoring of kids’ internet access on school devices and the amount of time devices are used in the classrooms.  

  • There was discussion at a high level from the Trustees about legislative priorities. The Board suggested convening a town hall with the City of Houston about the detention project.

• The Board announced it will have a Special Meeting on Monday, October 5, about “Discussion of Difficult Decisions 101” at 6PM.

• The Budget Advisory Committee will have its second meeting on Wednesday, October 7, at 6PM.

INFORMACIÓN DEL COMITÉ DEL DISTRITO

• El Comité aprobó la tasa impositiva at $ $1.05630. La cantidad es 3.32 centavos más por haber adoptado el bono de 2025 (para facilidades de deportes).

• Temas de la última reunión del Comité de SBISD 21/9/26.

  • Reconoció el Spring Branch Education Foundation por haber donado $3.68 millones de dólares en el año escolar 2025-26 para beneficiar los programas y los estudiantes del distrito.

  • En los comentarios públicos hablaron de preocupaciones sobre el plan de la Ciudad de Houston de poner una retención de agua en la escuela de Memorial Middle y si afectará en el futuro la posibilidad de construir una nueva escuela. PTA VOTES.

Monday (10/5) is the last day to register to vote for the November election. There are lots of races. Take a page every few days to have time to research candidates or roles you know less about. Find sample ballots here. Early voting starts October 19.

“How do I figure out who to vote for when there are lots of judicial races and offices that might be less familiar to me?”

In order to volunteer on an SBISD campus, you must be registered with SBISD and pass a background check. Registrations are now open for the 2026-2027 school year and take up to two weeks to approve.
